In an effort to address flooding in the state, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has begun demolishing structures built on the System 157 drainage channel along Orchid Road in the Eti-Osa area.

Tokunbo Wahab, the ministry’s commissioner, shared this update through a video and pictures on X.com on Thursday.

Wahab explained that the action follows months of discussions with property owners whose buildings encroach on this critical drainage route. Despite these discussions and a proposed redesigned plan, the property owners did not comply with the agreed terms.

Wahab stated, “After several months of stakeholder engagements with property owners along the Systems 156 and 157 drainage path, and their failure to honor the agreed redesigned plan, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has begun removing illegal structures on the canal along System 157 – Orchid Road – Eti Osa drainage channels to alleviate flooding in the area.”

It is worth noting that in June, the ministry similarly cleared structures obstructing rainwater flow, which had caused flooding on Okezie Ugbaja Street and other areas of Okota in the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area.
