The Lagos State government has announced a traffic diversion at Ikeja Along Bus Stop on the Oshodi-bound lane, between Ile Zik and Conoil Petrol Station, from midnight to 4:00 am on August 17th and 18th, 2024. This is to facilitate the demolition of an old pedestrian bridge in the area.
This information was shared in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will carry out the demolition. During this period, only one lane will be available for vehicles in the affected area to ensure safety.
“The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion at Ikeja Along Bus Stop, between Ile Zik and Conoil Petrol Station on the Oshodi-bound lane, from Saturday, 17th to Sunday, 18th August 2024, between midnight and 4:00 am daily to safely demolish the old pedestrian bridge.
“Consequently, from Ile Zik Bus Stop to Conoil Petrol Station on the Oshodi-bound lane, only one lane will be accessible to motorists to ensure safety,” the statement partially reads.
It continued, “Motorists are urged to be patient as the closure is part of the traffic management plans for the safe removal of the old pedestrian bridge by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).”

Transportation Commissioner Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi provided further clarification on the traffic management plan for the demolition of the old pedestrian bridge at Ikeja Along Bus Stop.
The traffic diversion on August 17th and 18th, 2024, will specifically impact the Oshodi-bound lane between Ile Zik and Conoil Petrol Station.
Mr. Osiyemi assured that this diversion would only affect the specified section and would not disrupt traffic for motorists heading towards Dopemu and Abule Egba.
To manage the anticipated traffic congestion and ensure a smooth flow of vehicles during the demolition, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will have a strong presence at the site. LASTMA officials will oversee traffic movement, providing direction and minimizing disruptions.
Mr. Osiyemi also emphasized the importance of public cooperation during this period. He mentioned that the affected lanes would be secured with jersey barriers and protective nets to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
