Colleagues release names of abducted medical students

The Medical Students Association has announced the names of the medical students abducted last Thursday.

Abwa Lawrence, the General Secretary of the University of Maiduguri Chapter, confirmed the victims’ identities.

In a phone conversation on Saturday, Lawrence mentioned that eight of the abducted students are from Maiduguri, who had joined their colleagues from the University of Jos on the ill-fated trip.

According to a list circulating on social media and verified by Lawrence, the names of the abducted students are as follows: Okopi Peter (UNIJOS), Enger Benedicts (UNIJOS), Kwagbande Aondona Kingsley (UNIJOS), Boniface Okon (UNIMAID), Dondo Fabian (UNIMAID), John Bitrus Naga (UNIMAID), Fortune Chima Umeh (UNIMAID), Godwin Gregory Tunda (UNIMAID), Monica Ejembi (UNIJOS), Ogbonna George Chukwuebuke, Paul Nyampa Zira, Lawrence Victory Adanugo, Boniface Tishe (UNIMAID), Gabriel Jita Iwev (UNIMAID), Thomas Yahaya (UNIMAID), Paul Shantone (UNIJOS), Victoria Cornelius (UNIJOS), Pius Samson (UNIJOS), Okan Adara (UNIJOS), and Dr. Luis Mmbanomyeukwu.

The students were on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students Annual Convention in Enugu when they were kidnapped at Ojano, about 20 minutes from Otukpo town.

Benue State police have reported that security personnel have been deployed to the area to rescue the students.

Lawrence stated that, as of the time of this report, there were no further updates regarding the kidnapped students.
