The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced a partnership with the Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) to enhance affordable housing delivery under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme. This partnership was formalized during a visit by AHCN President Eno Obongha and his team to the ministry.
According to Salisu Haiba, the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, this collaboration aims to combat homelessness and ensure that every Nigerian has access to safe, affordable housing.
Minister Ahmed Dangiwa emphasized that the Renewed Hope Housing Programme was launched to increase the availability of affordable housing in Nigeria and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to completing all projects under this initiative without leaving any houses abandoned.
Dangiwa also stressed the importance of using high-quality, locally sourced materials in construction to maintain standards and support the local economy, while still striving to provide accessible housing for all Nigerians.
The minister expressed support for the Agric-Villages Scheme, an AHCN initiative focused on using agricultural development to drive housing provision and create jobs. This scheme will be integrated into the National Social Housing Fund initiative, aimed at providing affordable housing for low- and no-income Nigerians.
Earlier, AHCN President Obongha indicated the association’s eagerness to support the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda by offering around 15 hectares of land in each senatorial district for housing development. The association also requested the minister’s assistance in securing Housing Development Funds through mortgages for State Housing Corporations and proposed that at least 20% of building materials for the programme be locally sourced to foster economic growth and sustainability.
