The organizers of the recently concluded #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, which took place nationwide from August 1 to 10, 2024, are planning another demonstration in October.
Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back Movement, confirmed the upcoming protests to our correspondent on Monday.
Adenola stated that the protesters’ demands remain unchanged, unless new issues arise that necessitate additional demands.
“Yes, it is called the ‘Fearless in October Protest’. Our demands remain the same. If anything, we may add more as the situation in the country worsens,” he said.
It should be recalled that youths across the country organized the #EndBadGovernance protests, including in the Federal Capital Territory, despite government efforts to discourage them.
In the days leading up to the protests, the organizers submitted a list of demands, which included abolishing the Senate, making law-making a part-time job for the House of Representatives, raising the minimum wage to N250,000, reverting fuel prices and electricity tariffs to pre-January 2023 levels, and releasing and compensating all EndSARS and political detainees.
When asked whether the protesters would comply with state government court orders requiring demonstrations to be held at designated locations, Adenola said, “We will not comply.”
Additionally, activist and Human Rights Lawyer Deji Adeyanju informed our correspondent that efforts are underway to secure the release of protesters arrested during the previous demonstrations.
“All efforts are focused on securing the release of those who have been arrested,” he said during a phone interview.
