The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced September 2024 as the new date for the commercial launch of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, Umar Ajiya, revealed this on Monday during a press briefing in Abuja. He stated that petroleum products would be ready for testing before being supplied to the domestic market in September.

Earlier, Billy Gillis-Harry, the national president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, had indicated that the refinery was prepared for commencement.

This announcement follows several previous start dates that did not materialize. In July, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, had announced that the refinery, with a combined capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, would begin operations in August.

Additionally, the company had previously set March and July 2024 as the expected commencement dates for the refinery following its mechanical completion in December last year.
