Aviation workers have called off their planned protest over the Federal Government’s demand for a 50 percent revenue collection from aviation agencies.
The strike, which was scheduled for today (Wednesday), has been canceled.
Nnadi Hector, Secretary of the Joint Aviation Trade Unions Forum, stated that the protest was suspended following a government directive aimed at easing tensions within the aviation sector.
Hector emphasized that the recent protests organized by aviation unions were peaceful demonstrations intended to bring attention to the challenges faced by industry agencies.
“Aviation worldwide is a service industry, and fortunately, the President intervened, although we have yet to receive a formal letter,” Hector said, referring to the presidential directive.
“He directed, even while out of the country, that the revenue deduction has been reduced to 20 percent. This is a positive development.”
A week ago, aviation workers across Nigeria announced plans to begin a nationwide protest on August 21, 2024, in response to the Federal Government’s continued 50 percent deduction from the internally generated revenue of major aviation agencies.
The unions made this announcement in a letter dated August 14, 2024, titled, “Save Aviation From Collapse.”
