A report from Sports Zone indicates that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has agreed on salary terms with Ademola Lookman. However, PSG is still weighing their options and has not yet committed to finalizing the deal for the 26-year-old Atalanta forward. The French champions are expected to explore other possibilities before deciding on the Lookman transfer.
Lookman, on his part, is eager to join PSG and is inclined to sign with the club despite concrete interest from Saudi Arabia. Al-Ahli had shown interest in the Nigerian international, hoping to pair him with Riyad Mahrez and their other target, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, to form a new attacking trio.
Atalanta’s manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, expressed uncertainty about Lookman’s future with the Serie A club after reports surfaced that the player had requested a move to PSG.
The Nigerian international was notably absent from Atalanta’s 2024/25 Serie A opening game against Lecce on Monday, having been excluded from the squad due to transfer-related reasons.
Panic ensued among Atalanta and their fans on Sunday when rumors emerged that PSG had contacted Lookman’s representatives to inquire about his availability. Football Italia reported that Lookman had asked not to be included in the Lecce match squad.
According to several Italian sources, PSG is reportedly prepared to double Lookman’s current salary, positioning him among the continent’s highest earners.
The French club was prompted to enter the market following an injury to Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos, sustained during a match against Le Havre on Friday, which may sideline him for up to three months.
Atalanta has not yet issued an official statement regarding the potential departure of their star player. However, head coach Gasperini acknowledged that he is uncertain whether Lookman will remain with the club after the transfer window closes.
Speaking on the situation involving Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners, who has also been linked with a move away from Atalanta, Gasperini told Tuttosport, “I have been given the right guarantees.
No one anticipated this situation, which is why I’m currently proceeding with caution. I’m not sure what will happen, but my role is to work as effectively as possible alongside the club.”
He added, “The final composition of the squad will likely be determined on August 31. We have a solid team structure, especially from defense to midfield, with players who have been with Atalanta for years, ensuring consistently competitive play.”
Since joining Atalanta for €9.35 million plus bonuses from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has been outstanding, contributing 32 goals and 18 assists in 79 competitive appearances.
He made history as the sixth player to score a hat-trick in a European final, a feat first accomplished by Jupp Heynckes for Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1975 UEFA Cup. Lookman scored all three goals in Atalanta’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin.
