Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that he has no intention of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the ongoing internal conflicts.
He emphasized his commitment to staying within the party and confronting the challenges head-on.
The former governor of Rivers State made this statement during a media briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, marking his first year as FCT minister.
When asked about the possibility of his departure from the party due to the crises within the Rivers PDP and at the national level, Wike firmly stated that he would not flee from the fight or the “vampires” within the party.
“I’ve made it clear that I don’t back down from any fight. I’ll remain here and face it. Who am I supposed to run from? The vampires? How can you even suggest that?” he responded.
The minister also mentioned that he could join the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he chose to, but noted that he maintained his integrity by not supporting the PDP presidential candidate during the 2023 elections while still ensuring electoral victories for the party in Rivers.
“Let me tell you something: anyone who knows me knows that if I wanted to join the APC today, I would. When I was in the PDP, didn’t I make it clear that I would not support their presidential candidate? Did I do it secretly?
“And those who criticize me, have they delivered a single winning candidate? Did the PDP not win? I stood firm on the principle that if certain conditions weren’t met, we wouldn’t accept it. People should be known for something, and integrity is crucial,” he said.
