The Lagos State Government reaffirmed on Wednesday its commitment to ensuring that retirement benefits are processed and paid promptly to all retirees in the state.
Bode Agoro, the Head of Service, emphasized this during the send-forth ceremony for 115 civil service retirees for the first and second quarters of 2024 in Ikeja, Lagos. He encouraged retirees to take advantage of the government’s empowerment opportunities to become employers of labor.
Agoro highlighted that the current administration has implemented several initiatives and programs aimed at keeping retirees engaged and connected to the state government.
He remarked, “Distinguished retirees, it is no exaggeration to say that you have left behind remarkable legacies for us to follow.
Over the years, you have upheld the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence.
“You have also mentored younger colleagues, fostered collaboration, and consistently worked towards the betterment of our state. Your contributions have not only shaped policies and programs that have benefited countless citizens but have also set a shining example for future generations of public servants.
Without flattery, let me state that your professionalism and dedication have ensured the smooth functioning of governance even in the face of challenges.
“Through your efforts, numerous projects have been successfully completed, and essential services have been efficiently delivered to the good people of Lagos State. With this, I believe you should take pride in leaving the service on a high note.”
He added that the government has put in place various programs for retirees, including bi-monthly webinars, quarterly training and sensitization, skills acquisition and vocational training, and mentoring schemes, among others.
The Head of Service also expressed his gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support and leadership, noting that his commitment to the welfare of public servants, especially retirees, is exemplary.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Sunkanmi Oyegbola, acknowledged the retirees’ contributions to the state’s development and their exemplary conduct during their service.
She said, “Our retirees have served with distinction, facing challenges head-on, achieving your goals, and contributing immensely to the progress of our state. We salute your courage and celebrate your unblemished record as you step into a well-deserved retirement.”
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Kehinde Akerele from the Ministry of Justice expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for allowing all retirees to serve the state meritoriously.
