Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election, has condemned a statement made by Canada-based Amaka Sunnberger.

In a virtual TikTok meeting, Sunnberger allegedly threatened to poison Yoruba and Benin people.

Atiku expressed his disapproval of Sunnberger’s remarks in a series of tweets on the X platform and praised the swift actions of the House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission in addressing the issue.

He stated, “The controversial virtual chat room video, where participants issued threats of ethnic cleansing against the Yoruba and Benin people, is strongly condemned in every respect.

“I am informed that the identities of those involved have been revealed and that requests have been made to relevant law enforcement agencies in Canada to prosecute those responsible.

“In this context, I commend the House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission for their prompt and decisive response to this inflammatory rhetoric, preventing further escalation.

“This troubling incident highlights the ongoing need to unite our people and our nation. Our rich diversity is our greatest national asset and must be vigilantly protected.”
