The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged not to let anyone seize control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State.

The former Rivers State Governor warned that he would spark a political crisis in any state where a PDP governor attempted to interfere in the party’s affairs within the South-South region.

During a meeting in Taraba State on August 23, PDP governors addressed the ongoing crisis within the party in Rivers State and reaffirmed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, in a communiqué delivered by its Chairman, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, called for a reassessment of the party congress’s outcome to reinforce Fubara’s leadership in the state.

Speaking at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt during the party’s state congress on Saturday, Wike urged PDP governors to steer clear of Rivers State affairs.

He stated, “Let me assure you, as long as we live, no one will take the PDP structure away from us. I’ve heard some governors talk about taking over the structure and handing it back to someone else.

“I pity those governors because I will cause trouble in their states. When God has given you peace and you reject it, you’ll face the consequences.

“I’ve heard they received some money from a signature bonus, and now they think they can meddle in my state. Be prepared because I have the capacity to retaliate in your state.

“Whether you’re from Bauchi or any other state, if you try to interfere in Rivers State, you’ll face the consequences and lose sleep in your own state.”

The Rivers PDP has been embroiled in a crisis following a fallout between Wike and his successor, who was absent from the congress.

The event was attended by serving and former lawmakers at both federal and state levels, former council chairmen, and other party loyalists.
