The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that 21 candidates with fake IJMB results were recommended for 2023 admissions by various institutions.

According to a policy document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, JAMB noted that 12 out of these 21 candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“JAMB discovered that 21 candidates who submitted fake IJMB results were recommended for the 2023 admission process. These recommendations were not approved.

“Twelve of these recommendations came from ABU, Zaria—what a bold move. The recommendations were possible because certificate screening occurred after registration.

Five institutions were involved in these recommendations; JAMB insists that all certificates must bear the signature of the Head of the institution (VC/Provost/Rector).”

The NEWS REVIEW reports that in 2021, JAMB launched the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform to verify IJMB and JUPEB results.

This launch followed an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, into irregularities and the falsification of results, as highlighted in a recent ICPC statement regarding issues with JUPEB Board IJMB examination results.

The statement emphasized the need to address these issues urgently.

In a bulletin, JAMB stated that it had become necessary, as the moderator of these two examinations, to take decisive action to halt these unacceptable practices.

“These proactive measures, along with others in the pipeline, are intended to ensure that the progress made in the education sector, particularly in examinations, over the years, is not undermined by unscrupulous individuals who do not have Nigeria’s best interests at heart,” JAMB stated.
