An unidentified male adult narrowly escaped death on Thursday when his Mercedes Benz C-Class caught fire at the Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The blaze reportedly started due to an electrical spark in the engine compartment.

Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated in a Thursday announcement that their personnel received an emergency call around 2 a.m. and arrived at the scene to find the car already engulfed in flames.

Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed that there were no casualties. The statement noted, “LASEMA received distress calls at 2:10 a.m. via its 767/112 Toll-Free Lines and promptly dispatched its Shark Response Team from the Lekki Base.

“Upon arrival at 2:13 a.m., LASEMA officials discovered the vehicle, which had an unidentified registration number, completely destroyed by fire. Initial investigations indicated that an electrical fault in the engine unit was the cause. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported.”

Oke-Osanyitolu added that LASEMA’s Response Team, assisted by officials from LASTMA, LCCI, and the Nigerian Police Force, successfully worked to recover the burnt vehicle. “The operation was completed, and the road is now clear for traffic,” he concluded.
