The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two political thugs during an overnight operation at various locations in Edo State.

This was revealed in a press release on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi reported that three cut-to-size locally made pistols and one locally fabricated gun were recovered from the suspects.

He stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to combat electoral violence in Edo State by apprehending two political thugs: 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.”

“Following a tip-off about armed individuals planning to disrupt the election on Saturday, police operatives swiftly acted, arresting Obanor, the leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 pm, and Tajudeen in Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election. A search of their bags revealed three cut-to-size locally made pistols in Obanor’s possession, while Tajudeen had a locally fabricated gun.”

He added that these arrests reflect the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to upholding law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process during the governorship election on Saturday.

“The police, alongside other security agencies, will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the Edo State election,” Adejobi stated.

He confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted according to the law.

“The police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property and urge citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through our helplines,” the statement concluded.
