The Federal Government announced on Friday that the Eko Bridge and its ramps will be closed for eight weeks to carry out essential asphalt resurfacing.
Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, shared this information in a statement on Saturday morning. The resurfacing project will start on Friday, September 20, at 7:00 a.m. and continue until November 20. Certain sections of the bridge will be fully closed, while others will have partial closures.
“This important project aims to enhance road safety and improve the driving experience for motorists,” she explained. The work will involve removing the old asphalt and laying down new material to address wear and tear and provide a smoother, safer roadway.
Kesha noted that detours and alternative routes will be in place for drivers during the closure. For those heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, the service lane at Alaka can be used to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge.
Specific route details include:
- To access the Island: Use Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and link to Apongbon.
- From Apongbon towards Eko Bridge: Connect through Costain to reach Funsho Williams Avenue.
- For Costain towards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue: Take Apapa Road from Costain, then link to Oyingbo and Adekunle to reach the Third Mainland Bridge.
- From Surulere: Use Costain to connect to Breweries and then to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.
Kesha urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan their travel accordingly and assured the public that appropriate signage and traffic control measures will be implemented to assist drivers and pedestrians. She apologized for any inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and cooperation as the ministry works to enhance the country’s infrastructure.
