A viral video featuring a woman, believed to be a member of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministry in Lagos, has caused widespread outrage. In the video, the woman claims she received divine intervention during a Federal Government examination and shared her answers with another candidate.
During her testimony, the unnamed woman recounted how an old man appeared to her in the exam hall and provided answers to some of the questions. She said the test was one of the military’s promotional exams (Army, Navy, and Air Force) and consisted of 50 questions—40 related to career topics and 10 about current affairs.
“We had all finished answering the career-related questions, and then the next 10 asked, ‘Name 10 Francophone countries and their capitals.’ Brethren, no one knew the answers. So, I held up my paper and declared, ‘I am a Chosen! I am a chosen!! I am a chosen!!! Who are you, question? Where is the God of my pastor power?’”
She continued by explaining that an old man in white suddenly appeared next to her and instructed her to begin writing the answers.
According to her, some of the invigilators noticed something unusual and removed her apron, which made “the angel” disappear. However, once the apron was returned, the old man reappeared and provided the rest of the answers. She claimed she answered all 10 questions correctly and felt like it was a dream.
The woman further claimed that she helped a fellow candidate, identified by her clothing as a member of the Mountain of Fire church, by signaling her to copy the answers before submitting her paper. She said only the two of them, out of 102 candidates, completed the exam.
The testimony sparked celebration in the church, but the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lagos, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, expressed shock that such a testimony was allowed. He called it a fabrication, emphasizing that God does not work in such ways and that academic success can only be achieved through hard work and faith.
Adegbite criticized the church for allowing such a testimony to be shared publicly and said the Christian body would address the issue at an upcoming meeting.
“She is entitled to her opinion, but we must verify it,” he said. “This is foolish talk, and testimonies like these should not be shared in church. If someone wants to tell such a story, they should tell it to monkeys, not humans.”
When asked about divine intervention in exams, Adegbite, who holds a Ph.D., responded, “The God of Chosen will give you the strength to study and take your exams, not give you answers.”
Adegbite also dismissed other recent testimonies from members of the church that had gone viral on social media, such as one where a man claimed a lion saved him from kidnappers, and another where a man said bullets could not penetrate his head. He labeled these stories as lies and challenged anyone making such claims to demonstrate them.
In response, Pastor Chidi Louis, Head of Public Relations and Media for the church, defended the testimonies, suggesting they were dreams and that the videos had been doctored to tarnish the church’s image.
He explained that the church allows members to share their experiences freely without censorship and was unconcerned about social media criticism.
