As the people of Akwa Ibom celebrate the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation, Governor Umo Eno has provided an update on why his administration has yet to launch the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. He explained that the delay is due to the ongoing search for partners to establish refilling depots for the buses.

Additionally, the governor issued a stern warning to independent fuel marketers selling petrol above the approved pump price, stating that such unpatriotic actions would not be tolerated. Currently, most filling stations in Uyo, the state capital, are selling petrol at N1,800 per litre.

In his anniversary address yesterday, Governor Eno stated: “We are actively searching for partners to provide refilling depots for our CNG buses. Once that is secured, we will launch the program. It would be counterproductive to buy CNG buses without ensuring there are depots for refilling.”

He further warned fuel marketers against exceeding the approved pump price, stating, “The government will not tolerate such unpatriotic behavior. A TaskForce will soon be set up to ensure those engaging in these practices are held accountable.”

Reflecting on the state’s journey, he added, “As we mark 37 years of our creation, we thank God for the peace within our borders, and we continue working to expand prosperity. If you are blessed, be a source of help to others. Let’s face these challenging times together and rise in glory as one people united 37 years ago by God’s will.”

Governor Eno emphasized the importance of unity, stating that politics and ethnicity should not divide the people, and encouraged a spirit of cooperation.

“Since my inauguration, I have worked as a peacemaker, collaborating across party lines and governing with humility. I plan to continue in this way for as long as I serve as your governor, with God’s help.”

He also expressed pride in the state’s steady growth across sectors since Nigeria’s return to democracy.
