Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has confirmed his involvement with controversial social media personality, Idris Okuneye (also known as Bobrisky), regarding legal troubles Bobrisky faced earlier this year.
Falz revealed that Bobrisky had requested N3 million from him to secure a VIP section at the Correctional Centre.
This statement was made on Wednesday following a letter from Falz’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, addressed to Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, demanding a retraction of defamatory claims made against Falz.
According to the letter, the allegations in a social media post implied that Falz had conspired with Bobrisky to “pervert the course of justice” by providing financial help to secure a favorable outcome in Bobrisky’s legal case. The letter, dated September 26, 2024, clarified that while Bobrisky sought advice from Falz, he firmly rejected providing any financial assistance, stressing that no payments were required.
The letter stated, “Your publication of September 25, 2024, on Instagram, titled ‘In everything and everyone mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue…’ has been brought to our attention, in which you made defamatory statements against our client.”
“To clarify, our client never initiated any conversation with Mr. Idris Okuneye. In fact, documentary evidence shows that Mr. Idris was the one who initiated contact. On May 4, 2024, Bobrisky reached out, seeking a phone conversation with our client. Our client, aware of the charges against him, obliged, thinking he might need legal advice.”
“However, during the call, Mr. Idris Okuneye, instead of asking for legal help, expressed his distress and requested N3,000,000, claiming he needed the money to pay officials for access to the VIP section of the Correctional Centre. Our client advised him against making any payments but Bobrisky insisted, stating that his lawyers had mishandled his case by advising him to plead guilty.”
The letter further criticized VeryDarkMan’s publication, which suggested Falz’s involvement in a homosexual affair and an effort to secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky. Falana & Falana Chambers demanded an immediate retraction and public apology on all platforms where the defamatory claims were shared, warning of legal consequences if the demands were not met within 24 hours.
A viral video shared by VeryDarkMan also claimed Bobrisky accused EFCC officers of taking N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky denied these bribery allegations, and the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, ordered an investigation into the claims.
