France’s World Cup champion Raphael Varane announced his retirement from football on Tuesday at the age of 31.
The former center-back for Real Madrid and Manchester United had joined Italian club Como for the current season but was left out of their Serie A squad due to a knee injury sustained in August.
“A new life begins off the pitch,” Varane shared on social media. “I will continue with Como, just without my boots and shin pads.
“I look forward to sharing more details about this soon,” added the four-time Champions League winner.
