One of Greece’s most renowned singers was placed in intensive care on Thursday after experiencing a stroke while performing at the ancient Odeon theatre in Athens, located beneath the Acropolis.
Videos captured from the audience showed folk singer Marinella, 86, collapsing on stage during a tribute concert held on Wednesday at the Roman-era Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
On Thursday, the hospital reported that she had suffered a “serious vascular stroke” and was receiving intensive care. Marinella has enjoyed a career spanning over sixty years.
She represented Greece in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, which was famously won by ABBA with their hit “Waterloo.”
