The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has expressed regret for his previous statement that any believer who does not pay tithes will not enter heaven.

While addressing attendees at the church’s annual national youth convention at RCCG Redemption City, he said, “I plan to speak to everyone when God allows me, and I want to apologize for my mistake in saying that not paying tithes means you won’t make it to heaven. That’s incorrect.

“What the Bible teaches is to pursue peace with everyone and holiness, for without it, no one will see God. It is possible to be both right and wrong at the same time. For instance, we have long taught that light travels in a straight line, but later we learned it also travels in waves.”

Pastor Adeboye went on to share an experience from a convention led by Kenneth E. Hagin in Tulsa, U.S., where a man vowed to contribute more than all the participants combined, who had collectively raised about $3.5 million for the Rhema Bible College.

He recounted, “The man explained how he began a business with $500, promising God that if He blessed him, he wouldn’t insult Him with a mere 10 percent. Five years later, he reported a turnover of $50 million, which motivated me to contribute vigorously to God’s work.

“To dominate, you must know how to praise God passionately. David became king not because he was the eldest or well-known, but because he praised God with all his might. Sadly, many of us lose that fervor as we mature in our faith; our praise becomes more reserved and civilized. David, even after ascending to the throne, danced so energetically that his wife mocked him.

“Your giving must be similarly fervent. King Solomon offered thousands of burnt offerings to God, and God declared there would be no king before or after him who would experience such peace, as kings typically fight wars to maintain their dominion.”
