Grieving Governor Umo Eno has referred to his late wife, Pastor Patience Eno, as “everything a man could ever wish for in a virtuous woman,” expressing that he will “miss her for a lifetime.”
In a broadcast titled “We’re Perplexed But Not In Despair,” delivered nine days after the shocking loss of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Eno shared the deep sorrow of losing his wife of 38 years.
He referenced 2 Corinthians 4:8 and expressed his gratitude to everyone who has shown sympathy during this difficult time, acknowledging the overwhelming flood of condolences from both near and far.
Eno said, “Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience (Oluwakemi) Umo Eno, was everything a man could ever wish for in a virtuous woman. She was my prayer partner, counselor, cheerleader, best critic, and a devoted homemaker with a constant smile. I will miss her for a lifetime.”
The governor extended his thanks to President Bola Tinubu and all those who sent condolences, noting that the “incredible outpouring of love, support, prayers, and words of encouragement through phone calls, messages, and visits since the unexpected sunset that has befallen our family has truly encouraged and strengthened us during this time.”
He particularly acknowledged the people of Akwa Ibom for their remarkable display of love and support across political lines, especially the youth who chose to suspend their planned national protests in honor of his late wife.
Eno further expressed, “I would like to especially thank our dear people from all walks of life who have united across party lines to mourn with us through prayers, condolences, and phone calls, even pausing campaign activities to pay tribute to our First Lady. We are deeply grateful.
“Let me assure everyone that we will continue to pursue everything she valued during her time with us. The Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) and all other programs she initiated will be upheld and expanded.
“The machinery of the state will operate seamlessly as the government remains committed to its responsibilities. Our focus will not waver from serving our people with renewed strength, as this is what Kemi has always prayed for.” He also commended the security agencies for maintaining peace during this somber time in the state, urging them to continue their efforts as the Local Government Elections approach.
The governor acknowledged the public’s respect for his family’s privacy during this period of profound loss, grief, and mourning, trusting that this will continue as “burial arrangements will be announced at the appropriate time, and we will not grieve as those who have no hope in Christ Jesus.”
