Tension escalated yesterday at the Alimosho Local Government secretariat as the suspended Chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, and his Vice Chairman, Akinpelu Johnson, clashed over control of the office.
On Monday, the Lagos State House of Assembly suspended Sulaimon for alleged misconduct. The Assembly directed the council’s Manager and Treasurer to recognize the Vice Chairman and support him in effectively running the office.
However, Sulaimon defied the suspension and returned to the secretariat, where he was greeted by a crowd of supporters. In contrast, the Vice Chairman had received an appointment letter to assume leadership.
According to a source, both Sulaimon and Johnson were unable to access the chairman’s office, as it was locked. After a brief stay, they both left for an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, four out of the seven councillors have rejected the suspension of Johnson, which was initiated by three of their colleagues. In a joint statement, councillors Mojisola Ayeni, Saheed Adejoke, Rasheed Semiu, and Elizabeth Fashina expressed support for Johnson and praised the House of Assembly’s involvement.
They emphasized that Johnson’s suspension was illegal and staged, vowing to back him in the administration of the local government.
