In a solemn tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, President Bola Tinubu has directed that Nigeria’s national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days across the country.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, who was appointed by Tinubu in June 2023, passed away on Tuesday night following a brief illness at the age of 56.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, conveyed the President’s profound sorrow over the loss, acknowledging Lagbaja’s dedicated service to Nigeria. “The President appreciates the late General’s contributions to the nation and sends heartfelt condolences to his family,” Akume shared in a statement.
Ministers of Defence, Mohammed Badaru and Bello Matawalle, also extended their sympathies to the President, the military, and the Lagbaja family. The Ministry of Defence described his passing as a significant loss, highlighting his dedication to Nigeria’s security and professionalism within the Army.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja will be remembered for his service, camaraderie, and his unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security.
