“Customs Seize Illicit Drugs Worth Over N46bn, Generate N550bn in Revenue”

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area 2 Command, Onne in Rivers State, has successfully intercepted containers filled with illegal drugs, including counterfeit Gonorrhea antibiotics, valued at over N46.39 billion.

This seizure, part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling, comes as the command reports generating N550.43 billion in revenue so far this year.

Comptroller Mohammed Ndede announced the bust during a media briefing, highlighting a total of 21 containers seized, including drugs that pose significant health risks. Among the confiscated items were millions of tablets and bottles of illicit cough syrup, painkillers, and fake antibiotics, with a duty-paid value of N46.39 billion.

The command also seized donkey skins, worth N441 million, and has made a total of 63 container seizures this year, including arms and ammunition. This crackdown follows the declaration of a three-month state of emergency in the port area, aimed at tightening security and preventing the entry of illegal goods.

As part of its anti-smuggling efforts, the Area 2 Command continues to collaborate with agencies like the NDLEA and NAFDAC, ensuring swift action against those attempting to undermine public safety.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent drug seizure, with investigations ongoing.
