EFCC Arraigns Man for Alleged N72M Fraud, Forgery in Lagos
In Lagos, Heart Chidozie Obum appeared before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on charges of forgery, theft, and defrauding Peace Asonye Udochukwu of N72 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought the case, alleging that Obum, under false pretenses, obtained funds from Udochukwu in 2023, promising a certificate of sponsorship. These actions reportedly violate several Nigerian laws, including the Advance Fee Fraud Act.
Obum, who pleaded not guilty to all five counts, faces allegations of illegally taking both Naira and foreign currency equivalents.
Justice Ramon Oshodi has ordered Obum’s detention in the Maximum Correctional Centre and set February 18, 2025, as the date for the trial’s continuation.
