Court Orders Co-Defendants to Open Defence in Ataga Murder Trial
Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos High Court has delivered a significant ruling in the ongoing trial of Chidimma Ojukwu, the primary suspect in the gruesome murder of Super TV CEO, Michael Usifo Ataga.
On Thursday, Justice Yetunde Adesanya ordered Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu, Ojukwu’s co-defendants, to open their defense. The trio is accused of various offenses, including conspiracy, murder, and theft.
Quadri and Egbuchu had previously filed a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to warrant their defense. However, the court rejected this argument, finding that the prosecution had indeed established a prima facie case.
The court’s decision means that the two defendants will now have the opportunity to present their own evidence and arguments in their defense.
The trial has been adjourned to February 20, 2025, when it is expected to continue.
