Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Two Young Brothers in Akure
Akure, Ondo State – A devastating fire on Wednesday afternoon claimed the lives of two young brothers, Jelad Oluwaranakinse, 5, and Jenson Oluwaranakinse, 3, in the Oluwatuyi area of Akure.
The boys were reportedly locked inside their home by their mother, Mrs. Deborah Oluwaranakinse, who had stepped out to buy provisions. Tragically, by the time she returned, the fire had consumed their apartment, leaving no chance for rescue.
Eyewitnesses revealed that neighbors made frantic efforts to save the children and extinguish the blaze, but their attempts were unsuccessful. The state fire service was called, but the fire had already taken its toll before their arrival.
The children’s bodies were later taken to the morgue at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure.
Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police spokesperson Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami said investigations into the cause of the fire are underway. “The two children were choked and burnt in the fire. The mother had locked them inside the room and went out. An investigation has commenced,” she stated.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
