Sokoto State Implements N70,000 Minimum Wage, Commits to Workers’ Welfare
Sokoto State Government has commenced the implementation of the new N70,000 national minimum wage for all state employees, including local government workers and education authority staff, effective immediately.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the move, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce. He urged civil servants to reciprocate with increased dedication and professionalism.
The governor assured timely salary payments, with disbursements scheduled between the 19th and 22nd of each month. This commitment aims to maintain Sokoto State’s reputation as a worker-friendly environment.
Addressing a long-standing issue, the government has allocated N500 million monthly to clear the backlog of gratuities owed to retired workers. An additional N300 million is earmarked for retirees who left service in 2023. Governor Aliyu vowed to ensure no civil servant remains unpaid their gratuity by the end of his tenure.
This development marks a significant improvement over previous administrations, which often delayed salary payments by over 50 days, causing financial hardship for state employees.
