EFCC Officer Slumps and Dies in Lagos, Investigation Underway
An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), attached to its Lagos Division, tragically slumped and died on Sunday in an undisclosed location in Lagos State.
A video circulating online shows the lifeless body of the officer, who was not in uniform, surrounded by sympathizers and police officers who searched his bag. His EFCC identity card was discovered during the search, with a voice in the video confirming, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”
Speaking to NEWS REVIEW on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the officer’s death and revealed that an investigation is ongoing. “Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale said.
This incident follows a recent attack on EFCC operatives in Onitsha, Anambra State, where Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu was shot during a raid on suspected cybercriminals. Oyewale reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring justice in both cases while condemning false narratives surrounding their operatives.
