NPA Ushers in New Era of Port Access with Automated Truck Entry
LAGOS – The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is revolutionizing port access with the implementation of a fully automated truck entry system, effective February 3, 2025.
This new regime will eliminate manual verification of number plates and Minimum Safety Standards (MSS) stickers at port gates. Instead, trucks will be required to have their number plates riveted/fastened and original MSS stickers securely displayed on their windshields for electronic verification.
The move, announced by the NPA through its technical partner for traffic management, Truck Transit Parks Limited, is designed to combat fraud, identity theft, and other entry infractions that have plagued the port system.
The NPA aims to create a more secure and efficient port environment by streamlining the entry process and cracking down on unauthorized access. The agency has warned that strict compliance is mandatory, and violators will face severe sanctions. All truck operators and port stakeholders are urged to prepare for the transition to the automated system.
