Trump Signs Executive Order Banning Transgender Athletes from Competing in Women’s Sports, Threatening Federal Funding for Schools and Pushing for IOC Policy Change

In a bold move aimed at transgender rights, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. Trump, speaking at the White House with children and female athletes by his side, declared, “From now on, women’s sports will be only for women,” marking what he called the end of the “war on women’s sports.”

The order empowers US government agencies to cut federal funding to schools permitting transgender athletes on women’s teams. Trump also announced plans to pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to adopt stricter policies ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games and pledged to deny visas to transgender athletes attempting to enter the US fraudulently.

This executive order follows a series of actions by Trump targeting gender non-conforming individuals, including a military ban on transgender troops and restrictions on gender transition procedures for those under 19. Trump’s actions come amid a broader cultural debate over gender norms, as the issue of transgender rights has become a key point of contention in American politics.
