LAGOS—Rose Idibia, mother of veteran Nigerian singer Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has called on Nigerians to help her plead with Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru, to leave her son.

In a viral video on Thursday evening, Mrs. Idibia expressed concerns over her son’s well-being, stating that 2Baba is not in the right frame of mind due to his ongoing divorce from actress Annie Idibia.

“Good evening, Nigerians. My name is Mrs. Rose Idibia, the mother of 2Baba. I’m calling on all mothers in Nigeria to help me beg Miss Natasha Osawaru to free my son,” she said. She further alleged that the lawmaker had placed symbolic beads on the singer’s neck and wrist, urging her to remove them.

This plea comes amid social media uproar following a video of 2Baba proposing to Osawaru. The footage shows the pair dancing closely before the singer presents a ring, sealing the moment with a long embrace. The proposal was made public just a day after 2Baba confirmed his romantic relationship with the politician.

Addressing growing speculation, the African Queen crooner took to Instagram on Tuesday, refuting claims that Osawaru played a role in his marital crisis. “She is a young, brilliant, amazing woman. She had nothing to do with what is happening between me and Annie,” he said, affirming his love and intention to marry the lawmaker.

Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Egor Constituency under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was elected in April 2023.

The unfolding drama has left Nigerians divided, with many weighing in on the singer’s personal and political entanglement.
