Lagos State Water Corporation Partners with WaterAid to Revive Akilo Waterworks, Set to Provide Clean Water to 100,000 Households in Ifako-Ijaiye

Lagos State Water Corporation (LASWARCO) has signed an agreement with WaterAid to rehabilitate the defunct Akilo Micro Waterworks, aiming to provide potable water to communities in Ifako-Ijaiye. The contract signing and awards ceremony took place at LASWARCO’s Ijora office on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Originally built in 2012 as one of 18 micro waterworks in Lagos, the project is being revived through WaterAid’s facilitation with support from Armani Beauty. LASWARCO’s Managing Director, Mukhtaar Tijani, confirmed that once completed, the facility will supply water to over 100,000 households.

Project contractor Rigmars Projects Limited will commence work upon part payment, with completion expected within six months. WaterAid Nigeria’s Country Director, Evelyn Mere, highlighted the project’s significance in addressing the health risks associated with poor sanitation and unsafe water.

The event was attended by officials from the Lagos Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, and the Lagos State Waste Management Office.
