“IGP Kayode Egbetokun Vows Justice for Osun Violence, Deploys Tactical Squads to Restore Peace Following Loss of Lives and Destruction of Property”
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed that those responsible for the recent violence in Osun State, which resulted in the loss of lives, will be swiftly brought to justice. The IGP’s statement comes after unrest erupted in the state on Monday due to a local government crisis. Egbetokun condemned the violence and emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any acts of lawlessness, hooliganism, or anarchy.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun expressed strong disapproval of the disturbances, which have led to the destruction of property and the tragic loss of innocent lives. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of these criminal acts are identified and held accountable under the full extent of the law.
The IGP took decisive action by deploying additional tactical squads to Osun State in an effort to restore peace and order. Egbetokun underscored the importance of maintaining law and order, stressing that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the safety of citizens.
“The Force is determined to clamp down on any individual or group threatening peace and stability in Osun State,” the statement read. “We will not tolerate acts of lawlessness and will take every necessary measure to ensure justice is served.”
The IGP also urged the people of Osun State to remain calm as efforts to restore normalcy continue. He appealed to citizens, leaders, and stakeholders in the state to shun violence and engage in lawful activities.
Egbetokun reminded political actors that the judiciary remains the ultimate authority in resolving electoral disputes, and that all parties must respect its rulings while upholding the rule of law and democratic principles.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to addressing violent actions across the country, with a focus on maintaining law and order. The situation in Osun will continue to be closely monitored, and necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of all residents.
