Balogun Business Association Leaders Urge Sanwo-Olu to Ignore ‘Imposters’ Who Misrepresented Market Leadership Amid Ongoing Court Cases

LAGOS—The leadership of the Balogun Business Association (BBA) has urged Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to disregard a recent visit by a group of individuals claiming to represent the association. The association’s leaders insist that the visitors were imposters with no legal authority to act on behalf of BBA.

In a strongly worded petition signed by key officials, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Anthony Obih; Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Chief Jones Okpala; Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Anselm Dunu; and Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Chief Leonard Ogbonnia, the association accused Chief Paul Oscar Ikechukwu Odogwu and his group of misleading the governor.

According to the petition, Chief Odogwu and his team falsely presented themselves as the executive leadership of BBA while disregarding ongoing judicial proceedings and court rulings. The association cited several Federal High Court cases, including Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/451/2021 and Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/579/2021, which establish the legitimacy of the current caretaker leadership under Chief Anselm Dunu.

The petition further stated that the individuals in question have shown “brazen and egregious defiance” of legal processes and acted in contempt of ongoing court cases, including Suit No: FHC/L/CS/2665/2023 and Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/459/2024.

BBA leaders alleged that Chief Odogwu and his group deliberately concealed these legal matters from Governor Sanwo-Olu to gain an audience with him. The association emphasized that the only legally recognized leadership remains the Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Dunu, and the Board of Trustees, chaired by Chief Obih.

The petition concluded with a call for the Lagos State Government to disregard any engagements with the alleged imposters and to recognize only the legally constituted leadership of the Balogun Business Association.
