Governor Sanwo-Olu Renames Ikeja Military Cantonment to Honor Late Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja for His Dedication and Service to Nigeria
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed the late former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, as one of Nigeria’s finest military officers.
Speaking on Friday at the renaming of the Ikeja Military Cantonment to T. A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Sanwo-Olu described the move as a mark of respect, gratitude, and recognition for Lagbaja’s courage, sacrifice, and service.
“This cantonment has long been a symbol of patriotism and discipline,” he said. “Renaming it after Lt Gen Lagbaja is a fitting tribute to a leader who dedicated over three decades to Nigeria’s security, counter-insurgency, and peacekeeping efforts.”
The governor urged Nigerians to emulate Lagbaja’s patriotism, stressing that honoring military heroes is crucial for national unity. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the armed forces.
Lagbaja, who served as Chief of Army Staff from June 2023 to November 2024, passed away on November 5, 2024, at age 56 following an illness.
