Rhodes-Vivour Condemns Forceful Takeover of Lagos State Assembly, Warns of Dangerous Precedent, Accuses Ruling Party of Promoting Violence and Undermining Democracy

Lagos Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has strongly condemned the forceful takeover of the Lagos State House of Assembly, calling it an attack on democratic institutions and the rule of law.

Rhodes-Vivour expressed deep concern, warning that the incident sets a dangerous precedent. “What we witnessed at the House of Assembly represents a troubling pattern where might is increasingly valued over right,” he stated. He criticized the ruling party for allegedly fostering thuggery and violence over ideas, arguing that such actions weaken public trust and undermine democratic values.

“For too long, Lagos politics has been defined by intimidation rather than inspiration, by coercion rather than conviction,” he said, urging Lagosians to see this crisis as a wake-up call for future elections. He emphasized the need to elect leaders based on character, competence, and compassion rather than party loyalty.

“The quality of our democracy depends entirely on the quality of individuals we elect. Lagosians deserve leaders who view public office as a sacred trust, not a platform for personal gain,” he concluded.
