“Natasha Traumatized Me and Others” – Akpabio Defends Senate’s Decision as Backlash Grows Over Her Suspension and Allegations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan caused distress to him and others, following her claims against him. Speaking on Saturday, Akpabio refuted all allegations, stating they only surfaced after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s committee and seat were reassigned.

The six-month suspension of the Kogi Central lawmaker has drawn widespread criticism, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi warning against creating a hostile political environment for women. Opposition parties have also condemned the Senate’s handling of the issue.

Addressing the controversy during an International Women’s Day event, Akpabio asserted that he was just the latest target of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations, emphasizing that none of her past claims had been proven. He questioned the impact of such allegations on the Senate’s reputation and denied any misconduct.
