Pakistani Man Charged with Murder After Fatally Shooting WhatsApp Group Admin Who Removed Him from Chat

PESHAWAR – A Pakistani man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat, police said Saturday.

Mushtaq Ahmed was fatally shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has a history of sectarian violence. Police identified the suspect only as Ashfaq, who has been charged with Ahmed’s murder, according to official documents and local authorities.

According to a statement from Ahmed’s brother, the dispute began after Mushtaq removed Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group following an argument. The two had reportedly arranged to meet for reconciliation, but Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, killing Ahmed.

Police say Ashfaq was angered by his removal from the group. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over firearm accessibility, tribal customs, and weak law enforcement in the region.
