Federal Government Takes Over Kumo General Hospital, Converts It into Federal Medical Centre to Enhance Healthcare in Gombe and Northeast

The Federal Government has officially taken over General Hospital, Kumo, in Gombe State, transforming it into the Kumo Federal Medical Centre. This marks the second federal medical institution in the state, following the upgrade of the former medical centre into the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the move aims to strengthen healthcare services across Gombe and the Northeast, particularly in reducing high maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

“The Kumo Federal Medical Centre will function as a tertiary hospital, train medical personnel, and enhance healthcare delivery in the region,” the statement read.

The facility’s takeover was initiated by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, whose request was approved by President Bola Tinubu. The President lauded Yahaya’s commitment to public welfare, emphasizing that the hospital’s conversion would significantly improve healthcare services in the state and beyond.
