Osun APC Dismisses $20M Fraud Allegations Against Oyetola, Calls It Political Vendetta
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations of a $20 million fraud leveled against former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola by his successor, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke, in a petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week, accused Oyetola of money laundering and breaching the Public Procurement Act.
However, addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Osun APC Media Director, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. He claimed the petition was an attempt to smear Oyetola’s reputation after the Adeleke administration failed to take control of local government councils.
Olabisi challenged the government to publish evidence backing its claims, noting that Oyetola had made contract details publicly available, while Adeleke’s administration had only disclosed seven in two years.
In response, Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, maintained that the petition was based on thorough investigations, alleging widespread financial mismanagement under Oyetola. He cited irregular contract awards and mismanagement of funds meant for healthcare projects, adding that a White Paper Committee had validated the findings.
Alimi further accused officials under Oyetola’s administration of laundering N1.5 billion through the state’s local government association and vowed that the Adeleke government would not relent in pursuing accountability.
The Osun government expressed confidence in the EFCC’s ability to conduct a thorough probe, insisting that no amount of political defense would shield those implicated from justice.
