US Cites System Outage for Visa Delays, Assures Affected Nigerian Applicants of Rescheduled Interviews and Restored Operations
The U.S. Department of State has attributed recent difficulties faced by Nigerian visa applicants to a partial systems outage.
Jennifer Johnson, Press Officer for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, disclosed this in response to an inquiry by News Review. Nigerian applicants had reported glitches, including missed interviews due to embassy scheduling issues.
On Saturday, Johnson confirmed the outage but assured that normal consular operations have resumed. She stated that affected applicants will have their interviews rescheduled and will be notified accordingly.
Last year, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria introduced a new visa appointment system aimed at streamlining the process. However, applicants have faced persistent challenges, with the U.S. government previously promising improvements.
