The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced the disbursement of N683 billion for the 2025 intervention cycle to public tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The fund will be allocated as follows:

Speaking at a strategic workshop in Abuja, TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, urged institutions to ensure full utilization of previous allocations and accelerate the procurement process for 2025 disbursements.

The 2025 intervention prioritizes infrastructure rehabilitation, research and innovation, academic staff training, medical education expansion, and entrepreneurship development. Specific projects include:

  • Upgrading and renovating aging infrastructure in institutions.
  • Expanding student hostels through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
  • Establishing mechanized farms in select universities.
  • Increasing funding for medical training to enhance student intake for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
  • Developing new research laboratories in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt.
  • Strengthening the National Skills Development/TVET program in polytechnics.
  • Supporting campus security, alternative energy solutions, and student startup grants.

Echono reaffirmed TETFund’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s tertiary education sector through increased investment in digital learning platforms and industry-driven research. He also called on institutions to explore private sector partnerships for sustainable infrastructure development.
