Wayne Rooney Slams ‘Lost’ and ‘Scared’ Manchester United, Calls for 10-15 Players to Leave as Club’s Struggles Continue Under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has delivered a damning assessment of his former club, stating they look “lost” and “scared” on the pitch. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Rooney insisted that United need a major squad overhaul, suggesting “10 to 15 players need to leave.”

United, currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, have struggled under new manager Ruben Amorim, winning just five of 17 league games since he replaced Erik ten Hag. With only nine wins from 28 games all season and early exits from both domestic cup competitions, their only remaining hope for silverware rests on Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

Rooney singled out Bruno Fernandes as the team’s only consistent performer but criticized the squad’s mentality. “It’s too easy for them to lose games,” he said. “Just show some character and fight on the pitch.”

His concerns were echoed by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who admitted some players were “not good enough” and “probably overpaid.” Amorim, ahead of the Sociedad match, conceded that “everybody, including me, is underperforming.”

With mounting pressure and fading hopes, United’s crisis deepens as fans await drastic changes.
