REA Commissions 24-Hour, 510kWp Mini-Grid in Osun to Power Homes, Businesses, Schools, and Healthcare, Advancing Socio-Economic Growth

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has commissioned a 510kWp mini-grid system to provide 24-hour electricity to Elegbejoda, Mefoworade, Olorunshogo, and Omifunfun communities in Ife South Local Government Area, Osun State.

Funded through a €9.3 million in-kind grant from the European Union and backed by German Cooperation, the project is part of the Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS). According to REA, the initiative will strengthen Nigeria’s mini-grid market and provide clean energy access to about 125,000 people. Beyond powering homes, the system will support businesses, schools, and healthcare centers, driving socio-economic growth.

Speaking at the commissioning, REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu, represented by Ngozi Chimdi-Ejiogu, emphasized that the project ensures stable and sustainable electricity for the communities. He lauded partners, including the EU, German Cooperation, GIZ, and project developers Havenhill Synergy Limited, for their role in the project’s success.

Osun State Governor Sen. Ademola Adeleke, represented by Energy Commissioner Festus Ademola, hailed the mini-grid as a transformative step for the state, unlocking growth opportunities for small businesses and essential services. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding access to reliable and affordable electricity across Osun.
