Rema Makes History as the First African Artiste on Rolling Stone Cover, Delivers Electrifying Performance at Exclusive Concert

Nigerian music sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history as the first African artiste to feature on the cover of Rolling Stone USA.

Rolling Stone, a renowned American magazine covering music, politics, and pop culture, announced Rema as the April 2024 Cover Star, celebrating his impact on the global music scene. His record label, Mavin Records, hailed the achievement, calling him an “Afrobeats Visionary” in an Instagram post.

Following the recognition, the ‘Calm Down’ crooner delivered an electrifying performance at the Rolling Stone concert, thrilling audiences with hits like DumebiWoman, and Calm Down.

This milestone cements Rema’s status as a trailblazer for African music, coming shortly after his feature on Dazed Magazine.

Born in 2000 in Benin City, Rema shot to fame in 2019 after signing with Mavin Records. His song ‘Calm Down’, featuring Selena Gomez, became the most-streamed Afrobeats track in history, surpassing a billion streams on Spotify and earning multiple platinum certifications.

The track also secured a Guinness World Record as the first African-led song to top the MENA regional streaming chart. In another historic feat, Rema became the first African artiste to perform at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, further solidifying his global influence.
