Mohbad’s Father Sues Lagos Attorney General, Challenges DPP’s Legal Advice That Freed Naira Marley and Others
LAGOS – Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has filed a lawsuit at the Ikeja State High Court challenging the legal advice issued by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which led to the release of four prime suspects, including singer Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
In the suit, marked ID/6197MJR/2025 and filed on March 13, 2025, Aloba, represented by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), is seeking to quash the DPP’s decision, arguing that it obstructs justice and preempts the ongoing Coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s controversial death.
Aloba contends that the DPP’s legal advice, issued before the inquest was concluded, resulted in the premature discharge of Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Prime Boy, and Pere Babatunde by a Yaba Magistrate Court on February 26, 2025. He insists that these individuals, who were implicated in the Coroner’s proceedings, were released without fully testifying, thereby compromising the investigation’s integrity.
He is urging the court to intervene, arguing that the DPP’s actions have obstructed the Coroner’s statutory duties and denied him a fair hearing under Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution. Aloba maintains that without the court’s intervention, justice for his son’s death may be jeopardized.
