Oyo Police Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Human Torso and Bones in Ibadan; Suspects Confess to Exhuming Corpses for Ritual Trade
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Ridwan Bello and Fatai Adeleke, for alleged possession and sale of human body parts.
In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the police revealed that on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., detectives from the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters raided Bello’s residence in the Muslim area of Ibadan following a tip-off. During the search, officers recovered a female torso, severed limbs, and dried bones concealed in bags and a paint bucket.
Bello, 35, confessed to exhuming the body from a cemetery in Awa-Ijebu, Ogun State, and selling the parts to ritualists. His claim was later verified at the cemetery. Further investigations led to the arrest of 70-year-old Fatai Adeleke, who admitted to purchasing human remains for ritual purposes.
The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, with police vowing to track down all accomplices. The command also urged cemetery managers to bolster security to prevent further corpse exhumations.
